Splatsin and VEXSL Announce Historic Partnership: Splatsin Becomes Canada’s First Indigenous Community to Join VEXSL’s Disasterfield Network
Splatsin and VEXSL Canada are proud to jointly announce that Splatsin has become Canada’s first Indigenous community to join the Disasterfield Network. This milestone marks a powerful advancement in Indigenous-led emergency preparedness, with Splatsin now officially recognized as “Disasterfield Ready.”
Splatsin is the southernmost member of the Secwépemc (Shuswap) Nation, which comprises 17 remaining bands throughout British Columbia that holds the largest territorial land boundaries in the province, stretching from the Okanagan Valley to Revelstoke and as far north as Williams Lake. The partnership reflects a bold and innovative step toward modernizing emergency management while preserving Indigenous sovereignty, cultural identity, and traditional knowledge systems. With evolving man made and natural disaster threats, Splatsin views the Disasterfield system as a way to break down silos between government agencies and indigenous governments while establishing resiliency in communications and intelligence to best prepare for, respond to and recover from the unknowns of disasters.
By implementing VEXSL’s Disasterfield Global Multi-User Coordination System, Splatsin is building a next-generation emergency management infrastructure based on intelligence, interoperability, and real-time data sharing. The system enhances connectivity within the community’s day-to-day operations and with external partners who are also on the Disasterfield network, operating across all phases of disaster readiness, response, and recovery inc. This includes government agencies, businesses and private/public stakeholders.
Disasterfield’s proprietary system architecture integrates cutting-edge technologies such as AI, Blockchain with a TAK-based user interface, delivering real-time situational awareness, redundant communications, and comprehensive operational visibility all driven from aerial & ground sensing technologies, advanced communications hardware and a turnkey support and system monitoring service. This empowers local leadership while maintaining full information sovereignty and ensuring that response strategies are both community-driven and technologically advanced.

Disasterfield is the world’s first Global Multi-User Coordination System, designed to dissolve operational silos and unify emergency managers, Indigenous communities, businesses, and government agencies on a single system. By delivering real-time communications and a common operational picture, Disasterfield enhances decision-making, speeds up response times, and strengthens collaboration.
VEXSL operates under the principle of “On Guard for Thee,” a reflection of its commitment to community protection, national readiness, and global integration.
“Splatsin has once again stepped forward as a national leader in innovation. By becoming the first Indigenous community to join the Disasterfield network, they are not only protecting their own people, they are showing what’s possible when Indigenous-led preparedness is empowered by world-class technology to drive sustainability and resiliency to prepare fore and protect what matters most to them.”
“This partnership allows Splatsin to combine our deep-rooted Indigenous knowledge with modern tools to better protect our communities. Through Disasterfield, we are building systems that reflect our values, enable knowledge transfer to our youth, and connect us with other nations and partners while keeping control in our hands.”

Every year, thousands of homeowners and business owners suffer devastating losses because of one false belief: “It won’t happen to me.”
Natural disasters are no longer rare. They're constant, escalating, and striking harder than ever before. Penticton, nestled between Okanagan and Skaha Lakes, is renowned for its natural beauty. However, its location also makes it susceptible to natural disasters like floods and wildfires. Recent events have underscored the importance of robust emergency preparedness.
